Calumet was formed in 2001 by Eric Mobley and Jason Mitchell, born out of their love for classic funk and a desire to create a new sound. The band was originally active until 2009, before going on a break. After intermittent recording and live dates from 2010-2014, Eric and Jason reformed the group in 2018. Calumet has made up for lost time with many new releases and performances extending their legacy. 2023-2025 has been their busiest stretch yet, with new music being released at a furious pace. Although devotees to the Funk, Eric and Jason continue to expand their sound, drawing from elements of rock, jazz, pop, and classic soul to forge their own type of music.

It is with great sadness that we must report the passing of our friend and bandmate Dave Moore. Dave joined us in 2022, and lent his warm, expressive playing on sax and flute to numerous Calumet recordings and shows. He was loved by all of us for his good nature and brought a calm, mature presence to the group. Highly regarded for his tone and feel, Dave was very active in the Phoenix music scene, and in addition to performing with many local groups, fronted his own. He will be deeply missed and we celebrate his musical legacy and the beauty he left us.
